Explain the difference between the automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS) now used by law enforcement agencies and the biometric fingerprint systems used to control access to computers and places like buildings and airports.
The key difference between an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) and a biometric fingerprint system is that AFIS is designed to positively identify a fingerprint in a file of thousands or millions of records. Biometric systems usually determine only that a fingerprint is somewhat similar (not necessarily a positive match) when compared against one fingerprint registered to that person.
