Before the meeting:

  1. Compile a list of your pack’s rules and add several fake rules to the list.
  2. Examples of fake rules include: You can only use the color yellow; Your vehicle’s name must include your favorite vegetable; Each vehicle must have a designated cheerleader who must cheer loudly throughout their race; and Any vehicle that smells like cinnamon cannot race on Wednesdays.

During the meeting:

  1. Gather Cub Scouts and talk about your pack’s rules for the type of race you have chosen (Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, etc.)
  2. Tell Cub Scouts if what you say is a real rule move to the right side of the room and if it is not a real rule move to the left side of the room.
  3. Say the rules to Cub Scouts and have them move to the right or left of the room. After each rule, talk briefly about the correct answer and explain why it is or is not a rule.
  4. Ask Cub Scouts and their adult partners if they have any questions about the rules for your upcoming race.
