Supply List
- Printer
- Printed Critter Dash cards (see Additional Resources)
- Scissors
- Painters tape
Objective
Set-Up
- Print the Critter Dash cards.
- Cut out the individual animal cards.
- Place the animal cards around the meeting space using the painters tape to secure them.
- Ask an adult or Den Chief to be the caller.
Directions
During the meeting:
- Explain how to play the game. Cub Scouts will listen for the caller to say the name of an animal. When they hear the animal name, they should move like that animal while looking for the matching Critter Dash card.
- Have Cub Scouts spread out safely around the meeting space.
- Have the caller call out the name of an animal from the Critter Dash cards.
- Instruct Cub Scouts to move like that animal while searching for the matching card.
- When a Cub Scout finds the correct card, have the Cub Scout freeze in place.
- After all Cub Scouts have reached the correct card and frozen, have the caller call out a new animal.
- Repeat the activity by calling different animals so Cub Scouts remain active and engaged.
- Allow Cub Scouts to join the activity at any time as they arrive by listening for the next animal call.
Tips:
- Demonstrate animal movements before starting so Cub Scouts understand expectations.
- Encourage safe movement and awareness of other Cub Scouts.
- Use simple animal movements such as hopping, crawling, waddling, or slithering.
- Rotate callers to allow Cub Scouts to help lead the activity by giving them a turn to be the caller.
