Department of Natural Resources Visit

Before the meeting:

1. Contact your local Department of Natural Resources. Request an education specialist or a natural resources officer to visit during a den meeting to talk to Cub Scouts in the 1st grade about fishing.
2. Explain that you are looking for information on teaching Cub Scouts where to go fishing, safety regulations, and local fish species.

During the meeting:

1. Introduce the Department of Natural Resources guest presenter to the Cub Scouts.
2. Explain to the Cub Scouts that they will be learning about fishing.
3. Have the guest presenter talk to the group about where to go fishing, safety regulations, and local fish species.
4. Give Cub Scouts a chance to ask questions.
5. Have everyone say “Thank you!”

After the meeting:

1. Write and send a thank you note to the Department of Natural Resources.
