  • Sheets of foam (approximately 24” x 24” per Cub Scout)
  • 1 Roll duct tape per Cub Scout
  • 1 Pair of scissors per Cub Scout
  • 2-3 Permanent Markers in different colors per Cub Scout
  • 1 five-gallon bucket with a lid per Cub Scout

Before the meeting:

  1. Gather the needed materials.
  2. Make an example of a sit-upon Bucket.
  3. Trace a lid onto the foam and cut out the foam. You will need two circles for each Cub Scout.

During the meeting:

  1. Gather Cubs Scouts and tell them that along with their six essentials when going camping they will also bring personal items such as a pillow, a sleeping bag and even a place to sit.
  2. Explain that you are going to be making a sit-upon out of a bucket.  This will give them a place to sit and also to store camping items when not in use.
  3. Give each Cub Scout a lid, their foam circles, and a roll of duct tape.
  4. Ask Cub Scouts to line up with foam on top of the lid.
  5. Tell them to use duct tape to cover the foam and attach it to the lid of the bucket. Work slowly, smoothing out the edges as they go. Caution them not to go under the lid so that the lid will continue to function properly. Continue covering with tape until the foam is completely covered.
  6. Ask Cub Scouts to use markers to decorate their Bucket. Remind Cub Scouts to include their name on their bucket.
