General Manager of Properties
Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) of Properties provides leadership for the maintenance, operation, safety and strategic development of Dan Beard Council properties including Dan Beard Scout Reservation, Camp Michaels and the Scout Achievement Center. The position oversees property staff, volunteers, budgets, capital projects, and facility operations to ensure a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience for Scouts, volunteers, renters, donors and guests.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop and supervise ranger staff, establishing goals, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a high-performing team culture.
- Recruit and engage with support volunteers serving on properties related committees and service groups/organizations.
- Partner with volunteers and staff to support property-related needs, event logistics and program delivery.
Property Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure all council properties, facilities, grounds, infrastructure, and equipment are maintained in a safe, functional and visitor-ready condition.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and long-rang property improvement plans.
- Oversee maintenance, custodial, groundskeeping and asset management activities across all council properties.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements and National Camp Accreditation Program standards.
- Establish properties usage policies and procedures that meet local, state and federal standards and the needs of ever-changing camping clientele.
- Act as a first contact for emergency issues and coordinate efforts to remedy each situation.
Capital Projects & Property Planning
- Collaborate with Properties Committee and subject matter experts to develop long-term property improvement plans.
- Serve as project manager for major building and development projects.
- Prepare project scopes, budgets and cost estimates to support funding, grant and development initiatives.
Financial & Resource Stewardship
- Develop and manage a fiscally responsible budget for the operations and maintenance of the council properties. Working within the parameters of approved budgets, coordinate purchases for daily operations and repairs.
- Secure gifts-in-kind, donated materials and project support for property initiatives.
Guest & Customer Experience
- Foster a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for Scouts, volunteers, renters, donors, vendors and visitors.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and operational concerns.
- Build and maintain strong relationships that enhance the overall camp and facility experience.
Education
- High School diploma; some college coursework preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of facility maintenance experience.
- Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance skills, with specialized expertise in at least one technical trade (ie. carpentry, plumbing, electricity, mechanic, etc) and basic mechanical knowledge Will need to maintain/repair variety of equipment (ie. vehicles, tractors, golf carts, skid-steer, watercraft, HVAC, etc).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365; technical aptitude to quickly learn reservation platforms and camp maintenance software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with a commitment to organizational goals.
- Ability to work evening and regular weekend hours, in particular with summer camp and large-scale camp activities/events.
- Must pass background check and adhere to Scouting America safeguarding youth policies.
- Residence requirement: must live on site in the Camp Friedlander residence. (Miami Twp., Ohio)

Salary or Salary Range: Competitive compensation plan commensurate with experience starting at $50K.
