Director of Membership Growth
Position Overview
Scouting America, Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and mission-driven professional to serve as Director of Membership Growth. This leadership role is responsible for driving strategic membership expansion, strengthening community partnerships, increasing youth and adult participation in traditional Scouting programs, and supporting long-term unit sustainability across the council service area.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-focused leader with strong experience in membership development, volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and organizational growth. This position plays a key role in expanding Scouting’s impact throughout the region.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with council leadership, staff, and volunteers to identify and engage underserved communities throughout the service area.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with prospective and existing charter partners to expand Scouting opportunities.
- Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with schools, businesses, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and other youth-serving organizations.
- Provide leadership and support to volunteer committees in areas including unit organization and structure, leadership development, membership recruitment and retention, and volunteer training and engagement.
- Support district and council initiatives that improve onboarding, retention, and overall member experience.
- Lead efforts to achieve measurable membership growth goals, including an annual youth membership retention rate of 62% or greater and unit retention rate exceeding 90%.
- Represent Scouting America professionally throughout the community through public speaking, presentations, and relationship-building efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of council objectives.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required (official transcript showing degree conferral date required upon employment).
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a professional Scouter with documented success in the areas of membership growth, fundraising, volunteer management, community engagement, and relationship development.
- Strong background in strategic growth initiatives, public relations, and partnership development.
- Demonstrated success working with volunteers, community leaders, and diverse audiences.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to travel periodically for professional development and training.
- Must meet Scouting America leadership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
- Employment contingent upon successful criminal background, reference, and motor vehicle checks.
