Sr Graphic Design Specialist
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Sr Graphic Design Specialist to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our creative team, you will utilize your expertise in graphic design to develop impactful visual materials such as handbooks, pamphlets, and guides that will inspire youth as well as adults. Ensuring the Scouting America brand is consistent with organizational standards and practices, you’ll design and produce attractive, engaging, and technically accurate documents that adhere to corporate design and production requirements for publication in all forms of media. This includes designing, modifying, and producing graphic art, page layout, and visual materials for a variety of publications and media. You will also create original design and artwork, generate and manipulate graphic images, animations, sound, text, and video into multimedia programs. This role requires a diverse creative background—someone who can design logos and graphics, but more importantly, who excels at editorial content creation (e.g., assembling large amounts of text and images into cohesive publications such as handbooks or guides). The ideal candidate will possess a strong aesthetic sense, exceptional creativity, impressive organizational skills, excellent verbal and writing skills, and the ability to translate ideas into compelling visual narratives. The Sr Graphic Design Specialist reports to the Supervisor, Editorial Projects.

Responsibilities
- Creates design concepts and layouts.
- Creates or buys illustrations and photography as needed and provides direction for both.
- Performs page layout, page building and content editing.
- Completes PDF construction, form fields, links, collecting for output, and releasing for output.
- Performs file management, naming, and archiving.
- For digital imaging, performs color correction, special effects, and asset management.
- Solicits bids, qualifies, selects, and oversees graphic specialist contractors performing Scouting America work.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Knowledge of: Adobe Creative Suite; Scouting America branding directives, including fonts, colors, logos, and other visual elements; design theory, composition, color theory, typography, and layout principles; industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc.
- Skill in: Creating visually appealing and technically accurate visuals for various media formats (print, digital, web); page layout and construction tools for print and digital publications; working with PDFs, including adding features like form fields, links, and interactive elements; color correction, and image manipulation; organization for managing design files, naming conventions, and archiving; working effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement design projects; identifying and addressing design challenges creatively and efficiently.
- Ability to: Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively within a team environment; ensure visuals and text are accurate and consistent, and adhere to brand guidelines; meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously; juggle different tasks and priorities effectively; take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision; stay updated on new design trends and software advancements; adjust to changing demands and project requirements; provide excellent service to internal and external clients.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts/design, marketing or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in graphic art and design or related field.
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
