Maintenance Technician - Backcountry *Philmont - OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician will perform skilled trades work, such as carpentry or painting in the construction, repair, or alteration of buildings and structures such as walls, roofs, floors or fixtures. They will make periodic inspections in base camp and backcountry areas to evaluate and determine necessary repair work and must have the ability to work from blueprints, drawings, or rough sketches. In addition, as a team member, they will assist in the maintenance and repair of the facility’s structures, machinery, equipment, plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC systems.
Responsibilities
- Uses detailed instructions, safety standards and procedures to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facilities.
- Complies with the appropriate permits, regulations, licenses, and certifications.
- Works with or supervises contractors and seasonal staff.
- Other duties as assigned
Competencies
- Knowledge of: Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical equipment, facility structure, carpentry, painting, repairs, and construction alterations; safety regulations and procedures to include OSHA, NFPA, and building codes; hand tools, power tools, specialized equipment; and preventive maintenance practices and procedures.
- Skill in: Identifying and fixing equipment malfunctions; maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting; performing routine inspections and tasks; communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and contractors; maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities; prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines; analyzing situations and making sound decisions; and collaborating with colleagues and contractors.
- Ability to: Use tools and equipment safely and effectively; lift and carry equipment, climb ladders; identify and address minor issues before they become problems; provide courteous and professional service to building occupants; and take initiative and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Education
- No Minimum Requirement
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Qualifications
- A minimum of 1+ years similar or related role preferred.
- Must pass a criminal history background check and driver’s license check.
Licenses
- Valid Drivers License required
- Specific certifications may be required in specialized skills or trades
